Background
Wentworth Point is a developing community, home to families and young professionals.
The commercial tenancy at the northern end of the residential development is currently inactive, with little infrastructure in place. It occupies a prime waterfront position and is located adjacent to a strip of small commercial suites used by local businesses.
The commercial space below the Bellagio apartments (café/retail) will become a venue where locals and visitors can order freshly prepared dishes, breads, and coffees.
Client brief
Since the space attracts locals, tourist, and passing cyclists, it demands sustainable and durable materials. The requirements were:
- bike service area
- cafe serving breakfast and lunch
- small bar
- commissioned artwork by local artist
Concept
Le Velo café not only provides a bar, a restaurant, and a bike workshop, but also serves as a boutique gallery featuring murals and artworks.
The white wall on the ground floor is accented with anodized blue air ducts, copper pendant lights, and bright colourful seating. The wall behind the bar holds commissioned mural by Beastman.
On the wall opposite the bar, where bikers get their service, is a commissioned mural by Phibs in red featuring a beast flying up and leads the viewer's eyes upstairs to the private dining, restaurant and art gallery where canvas works are display on 3 walls.
